Open University Openings courses available in Langholm

The 'Openings for Progression' is a new initiative from the Open University, aimed at opening up learning opportunities for people across Dumfries and Galloway.

A choice of  nine courses is available including, psychology, health, childcare, and the environment. Courses start in June, September, November and March and run for around 16 weeks. Course fees are £99 (£110 from September 2008) but you may be elegible for a financial award and if you earn less than £18,000 you can apply for an ILA(Scotland) account worth £200.

Like all Open University courses you don't need to have studied before or have any qualifications. Nor do you need to attend classes or be available at set times. You study at home at times that fit round you work or home life, and have the support of a specialist tutor.

To make the courses more accessible to local people, the OU have added a unique package of support services as pat of the 'Openings for Progression' project. Each lerner will be put in touch with a local study adviser who will help them to enrol and get ready for their course, provide ongoing support as the course progresses, and then help them to look at options for what they might study next whether at college or with the OU, or at another university.

To find out more about 'Openings for Progression' in Dumfries and Galloway, phone 01387 252588 and ask for Andrew or email awhoaen1@mac.com

The project is funded by the Open University and the West of Scotland Wider Access Regional Forum.
