For over 240 years the traditions of Langholm have been upheld by the townspeople. With the exception of war years the town standard has been proudly carried by the Cornet, elected by the community to tumultuous applause of locals and visitors alike who throng in the town square for the ceremonies.
The Langholm Common Riding always takes place on the last Friday in July.
Starting at 5am when the flute band parades the town, the festivities and ceremony continue throughout this special day when tradition dictates the cornet hands back the flag in front of the town hall at 9.30 pm.
