For over 240 years the traditions of Langholm have been upheld by the townspeople. With the exception of war years the town standard has been proudly carried by the Cornet, elected by the community to tumultuous applause of locals and visitors alike who throng in the town square for the ceremonies. The Langholm Common Riding always takes place on the last Friday in July. Starting at 5am when the flute band parades the town, the festivities and ceremony continue throughout this special day when tradition dictates the cornet hands back the flag in front of the town hall at 9.30 pm. The Community Centre, developed from the Parish Church Hall, and run by a voluntary management committee is home to a wide variety of organisations.    It is used as the Ambulance base for Langholm and area seven days a week and a full time children's day care organisation Monday to Friday.  Langholm Day Centre, across the car park provides a hot meal five days a week for up to fifty elderly people.  Transport is provided if required, and a wide range of activities and trips are arranged for the members.  There are many organisations which meet, weekly and monthly at evenings and weekends.
