Eastern Dumfriesshire An Archaeological Landscape by RCAHMS. An excellent and comprehensive work about the archaeology of Annandale and Eskdale. Out of print, and very expensive if you do manage to find it. Reference copies are kept in the Public Libraries at Langholm and Dumfries.
